Configure Share with VSO for Visual Studio Online using Alternate Authentication credentials

Enable Alternate Authentication credentials on Visual Studio Online

To enable Alternate Authentication credentials on Visual Studio Online you login to the portal on <your-site>.visualstudio.com.

 Open the user profile settings by clicking in My profile.

 Select the Security settings tab.

 Select Alternate authentication credentials.

 Check Enable alternate authentication credentials.

 Enter a user name in the User name (secondary) field. You can choose any valid user name you like.

 Enter a passowrd in the Password field. You can choose any password you like, but it is recommended to use a strong password.

 Press Save to enable your alternate authentication credentials.

Configure Share with VSO with Alternate Authentication credentials for Visual Studio Online

Start Share with VSO from the start menu.

 Click on Edit to configure the connection.

 Select Visual Studio Online (Alternate authentication credentials) in the Mode drop down list.

 Click Next to continue.

 Enter the server host name in the Server field. For Visual Studio Online this has the form of <your service name>.visualstudio.com.

 Enter the user name your have choosen for Alternate authentication credentials in the User name field.

 Enter the password your have choosen for Alternate authentication credentials in the Password field.

 Click Next to continue. The entered information will be validated before you can continue.

 Make sure the correct Collection is selected.

 Click Save to save to the connection settings.

Select collection.

You are now ready to use Share with VSO. Close the application and start Sharing from your applications.
